Stabbing at Silchar Medical College: Ambulance Driver Arrested for Assaulting Auto Driver

A usual morning at Silchar Medical College Hospital turned into chaos after a violent incident left an auto driver critically injured. The dispute, which began over a seemingly routine issue, ended in bloodshed, raising serious concerns about safety inside the hospital premises.

According to eyewitness accounts and family members, the incident occurred on Wednesday morning outside Silchar Medical College and Hospital. The victim, identified as Nizam Uddin Barbhuiya, a resident of Meherpur’s Panchghori Road and an auto-rickshaw driver by profession, was allegedly stabbed by an ambulance driver named Bappu from Atalbasti during a dispute over vehicle parking.

The disagreement between the two drivers reportedly escalated quickly. Sources say the two engaged in a verbal argument near the hospital’s entrance over where to park their vehicles. In a sudden act of violence, Bappu allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed Nizam Uddin in the leg. The injured auto driver is currently admitted to Silchar Medical College Hospital in critical condition.

Addressing the media, a family member stated, “My brother-in-law came here and had a disagreement with an ambulance driver over parking. The argument escalated, and then Bappu, the ambulance driver, stabbed him in the leg. It’s deeply concerning that such violence can occur in a hospital, a place meant for healing. If this continues, it will put every visitor at risk. We demand justice”

Family members and concerned citizens have urged the Cachar District Administration and Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma to take immediate action. Meanwhile, Ghungoor Police Outpost officers have arrested the accused and launched an investigation.
