Subimal Bhattacharjee’s ‘Netaji @125’, a documentary ideated by Dr. Joyeeta Bhattacharjee to be in Tokyo International Film Festival
‘Netaji @125’ a documentary directed and produced by Subimal Bhattacharjee has been selected by the prestigious jury of Tokyo International Short Film Festival 2022 in the ‘Honorouable Mention’ category.
The documentary features interviews of 14 individuals. The documentary was ideated by Dr. Joyeeta Bhattacharjee and was filmed under her mentorship. Sunita Bhuyian and Ronojit Bhuiyan’s music brings the interviews to life. Sunita Bhuiyan’s violin adds a backdrop to the storytelling making it easy to visualise.
Among the 14 interviewed by Subimal Bhattacharjee and team, there is economist and professor Anita Bose Pfaff daughter of Subhas Chandra Bose and his wife, or companion, Emilie Schenkl. Interviews of war veterans, diplomats, historian from America, professor from United Kingdom features in the film.
“It is a happy moment for me as I spent time on the documentary researching and getting those 14 individuals each of whom had a unique aspect to share about Netaji,” shared Subimal Bhattacharjee while speaking with Barak Bulletin.
“I had started work in January 2021 on the ideation of my late wife Dr Joyeeta Bhattacharjee and then had to stop work for 4 months when I was unwell after my COVID hospitalisation. Happy that we could get quality international recognition even before a public screening happened in India,” added Bhattacharjee.
It is worth mentioning here that both Subimal Bhattacharjee and his wife, Dr. Joyeeta Bhattacharjee were in ICU during the second wave of infections in Delhi. Dr. Bhattacharjee succumbed to the infection and left for a heavenly abode.
The online screening of “Netaji @ 125” is scheduled for May. The script and creative of the movie have been executed by Depalay Dey.
