Subsidised fertilizer meant for farmers being smuggled; Cachar Police detains huge quantity
Two huge consignments of subsidised fertilizer have been seized in Cachar Police. Since the last few days, top officials of Cachar Police have been visiting the yard in Salchapra as well as other locations where fertilizers were stored. It was clear that the Police is working on a high level intel.
Day before yesterday, Superintendent of Police, Cachar, Ramandeep Kaur herself raided a warehouse in Ramnagar with her team. Sacks of fertilizers were stored in the warehouse. “Since it was a late night raid, we sealed the warehouse. Today, in the presence of the magistrate, the seal was opened and as proper storage documents could not be furnished, we seized the articles,” informed Ramandeep Kaur, SP Cachar.
She said that the Police is still counting the number of sacks kept in that warehouse.
The warehouse near Ramnagar Bypass belongs to Moumin Mazumdar. The owners of the warehouse said that one Anu Das rented the warehouse for five days. “They have stored around 300 bags and showed us a challan copy, GST copy. Das said that he has a fertilizer store in Parathapatty Silchar. After checking the documents furnished, we gave him the warehouse on rent for five days. In the last five days, he has loaded several trucks and shipped them away,” said Moumin Mazumdar. Adding that he is no way related to the fertilizer scam.
On the other hand, a huge quantity of fertilizers was being transported to Mizoram. The consignment was detained in Lailapur, Dholai while it was on its way to cross the inter-state border.
Cachar District administration had provided a special permission to some wholesellers to transport fertilizers to Mizoram in order to meet the fertilizer crisis there. Miscreants are misusing that permission and running illegal Urea fertilizer smuggling business as per sources.
SP Cachar said that the Police is still investigating the matter and they are yet to ascertain if the Dholai seizure has a connection with the illegal warehouse in Ramnagar.
