“Tasked to create red-corridor in Assam,” Crime branch nabs “Kanchan Da” top “Maoist” from Cachar

Commissioner of Guwahati Police, Harmeet Singh has held a press conference to brief about an operation that he calls, “A Big Success”. Crime Branch of the Guwahati City Police raided a residence in Patimara of Cachar district and arrested Arun Bhattacharya known by nom de guerre ‘Kanchan Da’. A resident of Howrah in West Bengal, ‘Kanchan Da’ has at least 200 cases registered against him in various parts of the country. There are rewards worth around Rs 3 crore that the Assam Police units will get. Along with ‘Kanchan Da’ the Police has also arrested Akash Orang alias ‘Rahul’ from Kalain Tea Estate.

Singh informed that the top-level CPI (Maoist) leader had entered Assam with a long and vicious plan. “He may be an old man, but was tasked to spread the malice in the Northeast starting from Assam. He is a strong ideologue of the CPI (Maoist) party and had tasked to set up a red corridor,” said Singh.

He added that the chief minister of Assam, DGP Assam were kept in the loop while ADGP Law and Order, GP Singh himself guided the operation. Apart from creating a red corridor, Singh said, ‘Kanchan Da’ was put in charge to “Arrange a party congress in Assam, set up a core committee for Assam, arrange weapons for terror financing, start extorsion, which is a normal avenue for revenue for the Naxals. Motivate young people to join the terrorist organisation.”

Singh added that both of them would be handed over to the NIA as they are involved in National as well as, International level coups. He has lauded the efforts of the Police and termed this as a massive success. “It was a long and deep plan that they had,” he said, explaining why it is such a massive success.
