Teacher Falls Unconscious After Alleged Mental Harassment by Principal at Kalain School
A female teacher at Kalain Higher Secondary School was hospitalised on Wednesday (December 3) after allegedly falling ill due to mental harassment by the school’s principal. Her husband alleged that he found her unconscious. The incident has sparked tension in the Kalain area, with the teacher’s family filing a formal complaint.
According to reports, Assistant Teacher Shilu Chand became unconscious during a Class III examination on Wednesday after Principal Sirajul Ambia allegedly scolded and humiliated her in front of students, guardians and two other staff members. She claimed the principal was angry over the scattered desks and benches, as well as the shortage of seating arrangements in the classroom. Despite her attempts to explain the situation, the principal “refused to listen”, leaving her mentally distressed, she alleged.
The teacher collapsed inside the classroom and was immediately taken to a local hospital, where she regained consciousness after primary treatment.
Her husband, Asit Kumar Chanda, told reporters, “I got this information from her colleagues after which I rushed to the school on someone else’s bike and picked her up in an unconscious state and took her to the hospital.” He also submitted an FIR at Kalain Police Station, accusing the principal of mentally humiliating his wife and creating an unsafe environment for women staff members.
Principal Sirajul Ambia has denied all allegations, calling the incident “completely motivated”. He said he had merely arranged additional desks and benches from an adjacent room as there was insufficient space for examinees, and the teacher fell ill much later. “Nothing happened that could be considered insulting,” he said, adding that a “group is trying to defame” him and the school.
Sources told Barak Bulletin that the principal was detained at Kalain Police Station on Wednesday night for questioning in connection with the incident.
