Thieves Target Hospitals In Silchar: Attendants’ Mobile Phones Stolen from Cabin

In a disconcerting turn of events, thieves have identified hospitals as soft targets to pilfer the belongings of unsuspecting victims. A recent incident at the RE Hospital on Hailakandi Road in Silchar highlights the urgency of addressing security concerns within healthcare facilities.

The incident unfolded when a patient, admitted to the hospital for an appendicitis procedure, was successfully operated upon and later moved to a cabin for recovery. Two family members diligently attended to the patient, but their vigilance was shattered during the early morning hours.

In the predawn hours, as the attendants succumbed to exhaustion and dozed off, they were awoken to a distressing discovery. Their mobile phones had vanished without a trace.

The attendants, understandably distraught by the theft, promptly confronted the hospital authorities. In a bid to unravel the mystery, hospital personnel turned to the security footage from the facility’s CCTV cameras. What they uncovered was deeply unsettling.

At approximately 5:00 a.m., the surveillance footage revealed a man sneaking into the patient’s cabin. In a matter of moments, he brazenly swiped the mobile phones and disappeared into the shadows, leaving the attendants utterly bewildered.

In conversation with Barak Bulletin, the patient’s nephew expressed his frustration and helplessness in the face of this unfortunate incident. He stated, “The hospital authority has advised us to lodge a formal complaint with the local police station, and we have promptly done so. Given the patient’s condition and her need for constant care, two female family members were dedicatedly attending to her. It’s truly unfortunate that a few moments of fatigue led to the loss of their phones. We have filed a police complaint and hope that law enforcement will assist us in recovering the stolen phones.”

The incident serves as a stark reminder of the vulnerability of patients and their caregivers within hospital premises. As authorities take up the investigation, it is evident that healthcare facilities must prioritize security measures to ensure the safety and well-being of all individuals seeking care within their walls. Thieves should not find easy prey in places dedicated to healing and recovery.
