Tipper truck rolls off road in Udharbond while on the way to Madhura Quarry; 8 injured

There was a harrowing accident at Udharband today. Eight workers have sustained grievous injuries. Apparently the labourers had gone to collect stones from Madhura quarry in Udharband on a dumper. The incident happened around 1:30 P.M. The dumper lost control at Chandighat while going to Madhura quarry and rolled over on the roadside.

Eight workers sustained severe injuries in this incident. It has been learnt that Udharband police reached the spot after receiving the report of this disaster. Local people and Udharband police have reportedly rescued the injured and sent them to Silchar Medical College and Hospital.

“There was a similarly terrifying incident here a few days ago. But the administration and forest department both play hot potato with each other regarding this,” one of the locals has said.

Further, there are allegations that such dumpers often hit cattle and other animals near the road which damages the livelihood of the locals. They’ve bemoaned that acquiring compensation from them is also a Herculean task as the process drags for months, despite there being evidence and police presence.

Grave accusations of child labour are also surfacing, as there are claims that the locals have often seen pre-teen children on these dumpers on their way to work. The locals have demanded the administration to cover the medical fees of the labourers injured in this accident.
