
Top Cop from Silchar, Sanjib Sekhar Roy Wins DGP’s Commendation Gold Medal
Sanjib Sekhar Roy, Assistant Inspector General of Police (Law), Assam, has been awarded the Assam Director General of Police’s Commendation Medal (Gold) for the year 2025 in recognition of his meritorious service. The award was officially announced on December 31, 2025.
Originally from Silchar, Roy’s achievement is a proud moment for the Barak Valley. Such recognition will inspire the younger generation to pursue public service with dedication and integrity.
Born into a family with a strong policing legacy, Sanjib Sekhar Roy is the son of Sabita Roy and the late Sitangshu Shekhar Roy, who was also a part of the Assam Police Service (APS) and retired as a Superintendent of Police.
Roy, a 1995 batch APS Officer, currently serves as AIGP (Law) in the Assam Police and is posted at the Office of the Director General of Police, Ulubari, Guwahati. He had served a significant part of his career in Barak Valley, serving as the Commandant of the 15th Assam Police Battalion in Eraligool, Sribhumi and also the 21st Assam Police Battalion in Katlicherra, Hailakandi.
Roy completed some part of his schooling in Nalbari and later pursued his graduation at Gurucharan College, Silchar. He subsequently began preparing for the APSC Combined Competitive Examination (CCE) under the sole guidance of his father. After clearing the exam, he joined the police service in 1995 and rose through the ranks to become an AIGP.
His conferment with the DGP’s Commendation Gold Medal stands as a testament to his outstanding professional commitment and adds another chapter of distinction to Barak Valley’s contribution to the Assam Police.
