Tragedy on New Year’s Eve: Silchar Man Killed in Ditokcherra Road Accident, Four Critically Injured

A sombre start to the new year 2025. While New Year celebrations marked joyous beginnings for many, tragedy struck a group from Silchar, leading to the death of one and leaving four others critically injured in a horrific road accident.

Five friends and family members from the Uttar Krishnapur area of Silchar decided to spend New Year’s countdown near the Borail Hills of Dima Hasao. While on their way from Silchar to Haflong they met with a fatal accident leading to the death of one on the spot.

Travelling in a Bolero vehicle, they reportedly lost control near Ditokcherra on the Silchar-Haflong road, colliding head-on with an oncoming truck.

Bappu Barbhuiya, one of the passengers, was killed on the spot due to the severe impact. The others—Nippu Laskar, Anwar Sadat Laskar, Parul Laskar, and Tinku Chowdhury—suffered critical injuries.

The injured were initially rushed to a nearby local hospital but were later transferred to Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) for advanced treatment due to their critical conditions. They are currently under intensive medical care.

Initial reports suggest the group was inebriated at the time of the accident. Authorities are investigating the incident to confirm the circumstances leading to the crash.

This tragic start to the New Year has cast a shadow over Silchar, leaving the community in mourning.
