Tragic Accident Before Eid-Eve in Hailakandi: One Dead, Safety Concerns Raised
A fatal road accident causing the death of an individual in an accident-prone area of Hailakandi has sparked concerns among locals, who question why the administration has not taken any preventive measures in the area.
The accident took place on Saturday (March 29) evening when Monsur Alam Laskar, a resident of Hailakandi, was returning home after shopping for Eid. The collision occurred at Bhauraghat Bazaar, but details regarding the vehicle involved remain unclear. Tragically, Laskar died on the spot, leaving the community in shock.
A local resident addressing the media expressed his condolences and confirmed the identity of the deceased. He criticised the administration’s inaction, stating, “I would like to beg the attention of the District Administration of Hailakandi regarding this region, which is already an accident-prone area, and yet the administration didn’t take any steps to prevent such accidents. This is why we see such accidents occurring quite often.”
He further urged the authorities to take immediate preventive measures, adding, “As a citizen, I am demanding the authorities to take steps as soon as possible from Bhauraghat bypass to Monachera to end this saga of road accidents.”
Meanwhile, Hailakandi police arrived at the scene and transported the body to Santosh Kumar Roy Civil Hospital for a post-mortem examination. The investigation is ongoing to determine the exact cause of the accident.
This incident serves as a grim reminder of the importance of road safety. Authorities must address accident-prone areas with proper infrastructure and awareness campaigns, while drivers should exercise caution, follow traffic rules, and prioritise safety on the roads.
