In a heartbreaking turn of events, two young cousins lost their lives after a drowning incident in the Kalain’s Dumkar area of Cachar district. The victims have been identified as Afsana Begum, aged six, and Fatima Begum, aged seven. The incident plunged the local community into a state of mourning.

According to the available information, the two girls were returning home from school when the unfortunate incident occurred. It is reported that Afsana, the younger of the two, went near a nearby pond to wash her hands. Tragically, she slipped and was dragged into the deep waters. Witnessing her sister in distress, Fatima bravely jumped into the water in an attempt to save her cousin but tragically ended up drowning as well.

Eyewitnesses at the scene immediately sprang into action, rushing to the aid of the girls. With their prompt response, they managed to retrieve both Afsana and Fatima from the water and quickly transported them to the nearest healthcare center.

Despite the efforts of the medical staff, the treating doctors pronounced both girls dead upon their arrival at the healthcare facility. The news of their untimely demise has sent shockwaves throughout the community, leaving friends, family, and neighbors devastated.

The tragic incident has shed light on the importance of water safety and the need for increased awareness in communities, particularly in areas where bodies of water are accessible to children.
