Truck Hits Bike in Dholai: One School Student Dead, Another Critical; Locals Blame Illegal Parking
A school student lost his life in a tragic road accident at Islamabad, Dholai area of Cachar on Wednesday (August 27) afternoon. The accident occurred around 12 noon on National Highway 306 (Silchar–Aizawl Road) near the Manipuri Market area when a 12-wheeler truck rammed into a motorcycle, leaving two students critically injured.
The victims, students of M.A. Laskar Senior Secondary School, were travelling from Bhaga Bazar towards Dholai on a Pulsar motorcycle when the speeding truck (registration number WB-B 9595) hit them from behind. Eyewitnesses alleged that one of the truck’s wheels ran over the stomach of a student after the collision.
Both students were rushed to Silchar Medical College and Hospital. Doctors declared 17-year-old Asadul Haque Laskar, son of Ain Uddin Laskar of Rajghat Part I under Bhaga Bazar GP, dead on arrival. The condition of the other student remains critical.
Following the incident, Officer-in-Charge of Dholai Police Station Kulendra Huzuri and Second Officer Junu Ranjan Deuri, along with a large police team, reached the spot and seized the truck and motorcycle.
Angry locals blamed illegal parking along both sides of the highway for the recurring accidents in the area. They alleged that long-distance trucks often park in front of roadside eateries, garages, and shops for hours, causing severe traffic congestion and risks. Despite repeated complaints, they claimed, no concrete action has been taken by the police or district administration.
Residents warned that unless illegal parking is curbed immediately, such fatal accidents will continue to occur in the area.
