Truck runs over Cyclist in Rangirkhari leaving him dead on the spot: Locals Express Frustration Over Traffic Management

In a devastating incident that unfolded earlier today, a fatal accident occurred at around 8:00 am, resulting in the loss of a precious life. The victim has been identified as Kingen Kangmei,  resident of Silchar’s Gopalganj area, who was on his way to NIT Silchar where he was contracted for housekeeping work.

According to a colleague and friend who was accompanying him, Kangmei and his friend set out from their homes at 7:40 am, riding their bicycles towards NIT Silchar, where they were employed. Tragedy struck as they were heading towards Sonai Road from Rangirkhari, when Kangmei’s bicycle was hit from behind by a truck. The truck, which was overtaking another vehicle at the time, seemed to have lost control, leading to the fatal collision.

The impact of the accident proved fatal, claiming Kangmei’s life on the spot. The untimely demise has left the local community in deep shock and mourning. In response to the tragedy, enraged locals took to the streets, blocking the road as a protest against what they perceive as negligence on the part of the Traffic Police. The Rangirkhari Point area, which residents claim has been neglected for a significant period, appears to have sparked frustrations that have now come to the forefront.

A long-standing issue plaguing the area has been the consistent traffic congestion caused by long queues of buses, particularly during the morning hours. This situation has been an ongoing source of frustration for parents who face an uphill battle while attempting to drop their children off at Holy Cross School. The absence of effective traffic management has been a point of contention, as former Ward Commissioner Sajal Banik lamented, “Where is the Traffic Police system that is supposed to shield us from such problems? Go and ask the stores in the area for their opinion on the traffic system, they will reiterate what I just said.”

In response to the mounting tensions and unrest, Additional SP of Cachar, Subrata Sen, swiftly mobilized his team to the accident site in order to restore calm and order. The local residents’ road blockade and resistance against the Police officials’ efforts to recover the deceased’s body and facilitate a post-mortem examination have added further challenges to the situation.

As investigations into the accident continue, the tragic incident has raised important questions about road safety and traffic management in the Rangirkhari area. The loss of Kingen Kangmei serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need for comprehensive measures to address the traffic issues that have not only inconvenienced the community but have also led to the heart-wrenching loss of a life.
