Tuk Tuk owners return Rs 1 lakh donated by Karim Uddin Barbhuiya; “Sujit da gave us 70,000 each,”

Today evening, a few E-Rickshaw (Tuk Tuk) owners gathered at the Rangirkhari Police Station to claim their property that was escorted by the Police following the communal clash that broke on June 29 at the Panchayat Road area. During the clash, according to them, a few vehicles were allegedly damaged by the miscreants in the area.

An owner, while speaking with the members of the Press said, “We have come here to collect our respective vehicles that got damaged during the danga.” He added, “Yes, the vehicles got damaged and it will hit us as a monetary blow. However, we have been helped by Sujit Da (Sujit Das Choudhury) of Kaibarta Unnayan Parishad with a monetary help of Rs 70,000 each to repair the vehicle.”

What comes as a massive revelation is the fact that they have returned the compensation offered by Sonai MLA, Karim Uddin Barbhuiya. “Sonai MLA had come to meet us and extended a compensation of Rs 1 lakh. We have returned the money to him as we don’t need it since we have the support of Sujit Da,” said the owner.

For the freshers, Karim Uddin Barbhuiya visited Sujit Das Choudhury and addressed a gathering, with particular mention of people belonging to the Kaibarta Community, particularly on July 1. The Sonai MLA’s visit came after the Deputy Commissioner of Cachar called for a peace meeting to restore tranquility in the district.

“I don’t hesitate in saying this publically that the people belonging to the Kaibarta community work tirelessly in all sectors of society. Many people allege that the Kaibarta people are aggressive in nature, but I disagree with this perception. Kaibarta people are straight to the face and do not conspire behind the back. As a mark of solidarity, I would like to extend compensation to my brothers from the Kaibarta community for them to repair their vehicles. And if anyone has said anything to the community, I apologise,” Sonai MLA had said after meeting Sujit Das Choudhury and other members of the community.
