Two minor girls rescued in Silchar as they board flights to meet lovers; Trafficking suspected
Two minor girls from Cachar district’s Jaipur and Karimganj districts were detained by airport security at Silchar Airport on Monday. They were secretly leaving to meet their “lovers” in two different cities.
The on-duty airport security noticed two minor girls had boarded two separate flights: Silchar-Kolkata-Mumbai and Silchar-Kolkata-Bengaluru without any guardian. Finding them with no adult supervision or guardian made the security suspicious. On inquiry, the girls informed that they were leaving for their respective cities to meet their lovers. The on-duty security officials immediately informed the matter to Kumbhirgram Police Outpost. Soon after, the Officer-in-Charge of Kumbhirgram Outpost, Dayamaya Singha rescued the girls. They were brought to the Kumbhirgram outpost and were later handed over to their fathers.
On getting the information about this detention, the mobile phones of the two said lovers were found out to be switched off. As they were questioned, the two minors denied to give any information about their lovers to the police.
This incident has created unrest in Kumbhirgram area. Many locals have opinionated that the said lovers might be involved in female trafficking. “Consequently, the girls were asked to fly to them alone”, added the locals. A proper investigation may dig into the hidden truth.
