Udharbond BSF Constable Martyred in Akhnoor During J&K Floods
A Border Security Force (BSF) jawan from Cachar district of Assam lost his life in the line of duty on Wednesday (August 27) during an operational deployment along the International Boundary in the Akhnoor area of Jammu district. The braveheart has been identified as Constable (GD) Rajib Nunia, a resident of Doyapur village under Udharbond in Cachar. He had joined the BSF barely two months ago and was serving in Jammu when tragedy struck.
Amid relentless monsoon rains, Jammu and Kashmir has been reeling under a severe flood crisis, with rivers flowing above danger levels, landslides blocking highways, and scores of people losing their lives. The region has witnessed massive destruction of homes and infrastructure, forcing the suspension of the Vaishno Devi pilgrimage due to loss of lives and the closure of schools in several districts.
According to reports, a watchtower collapsed during duty hours, leading to his untimely death. The BSF confirmed that Constable Nunia attained martyrdom while carrying out his responsibilities with “unwavering courage, commitment, and dedication.”
In a statement, the force said, “We pay solemn tribute to BSF Braveheart Constable (GD) Rajib Nunia, who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty. His sacrifice will always be remembered and honoured. DG BSF and all ranks express their deepest condolences to his family. He attained martyrdom with unwavering courage, commitment, and dedication”.
The news of his death has plunged his native village in Cachar into mourning. Neighbours and relatives remembered him as a young, energetic man who had just started his service career with the dream of serving the nation.
