Udharbond Fertilizer Scam: Two Arrested for Issuing Fake Kisan Credit Card
In a dramatic turn of events, Udharband police arrested two individuals this morning for their involvement in a fake Kisan Credit Card scam. The arrested suspects are identified as Haru Das, a resident of North Krishnapur, and Rinku Dhar, from Udharband’s Durganagar. The incident unfolded following a complaint filed by Rohit Singh, a resident of Larsingpar, at the Udharband police station.
The scam came to light around 9:30 AM on Sunday when four individuals visited the house of Rajesh Rajbangshi in the Japhirband area. Posing as officials from the Agriculture Department, the individuals came to the village on the pretext of generating Kisan Credit Cards for the locals by taking Aadhaar Card data and biometrics. Other people of the village also came there to get their cards made. Suspicion arose among the locals when one of the impersonators pocketed the receipt generated by the POS machine after an Aadhaar card was submitted for issuing the credit card.
Other people of the area also gathered and the commotion attracted the attention of local BJP workers and residents. Upon confronting the four individuals, the locals realized they were unable to provide a satisfactory explanation for their actions and the locals understood they were not government officials in reality. This led to a chaotic scene as the scammers attempted to flee. However, the vigilant locals managed to apprehend Haru Das and Rinku Dhar, along with the POS machine they used, while the other two suspects escaped.
The locals discovered that the receipt in question pertained to the purchase of chemical fertilizer, further raising doubts about the legitimacy of the so-called officials. Promptly reporting the matter to the authorities, the Udharband police arrived swiftly at the scene, took custody of the two suspects, and seized the POS machine along with the receipts generated.
Rohit Singh, a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party, lodged an official complaint alleging the involvement of four bogus government officials in a broader fertilizer scam. Singh alleged that these scammers have collected data from other nearby villages also. The apprehended individuals are currently held at the Udharband police station, where an investigation is ongoing to uncover the full extent of the fraudulent activities and apprehend the remaining suspects.
This incident has sparked concern among the local community regarding the prevalence of such scams and the measures needed to safeguard against them. The police have urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to prevent further occurrences of such fraudulent schemes.
