Using electric transformer’s base as dump yard; Major fire breaks in Silchar’s Sonai Road

If you happen to cross by an electric transformer in Silchar, check the area around it. Nine out of ten transformers are surrounded by piles of garbage. This has become the new normal. Today, that habit almost led to a fatal outburst.

A transformer in Sonai Road, Silchar caught fire today afternoon. The fire in the roadside electric device scared the locals and the vehicular traffic was shut down. Fire Brigade was informed and the engines rushed to the place. Residents living in the nearby buildings panicked as they thought there could be an explosion.

The Fire and Emergency Services officials managed to bring the fire under control before any such explosion. Rangirkhari Police Station also assisted the Firemen. Soon the vehicular traffic started plying on both sides and the situation was brought under control.

In charge of Rangirkhari Police Station said, “It is suspected that the fire broke from the garbage pilled under the transformer. The situation is under control and the matter is being further investigated. What we request to the people is to not dump garbage near electric devices as it could be dangerous.”
