Victory For BJP as Nihar Ranjan Das Wins Dholai Bye-Polls by 9017 Votes

Dholai’s BJP Candidate Nihar Ranjan Das wins Dholai with over ten thousand votes. At the end of 14 rounds out of 15, Das was leading by a whopping 9,344 votes and at the end of all 15 rounds, the victory is of the BJP. A whopping 10,000-plus votes lead has secured Nihar Ranjan Das the Dholai Seat. The final counting still is waited for any objections or claims from the other parties.

As of the 14th Round, the BJP has secured a total of 64,772 votes, while the Congress has received 55,428 votes. Even though the counting started with a slow pace this morning, but soon took up its speed and currently with a lead of over nine thousand votes, is inches away from blossoming the saffron lotus yet again in Dholai.

After Parimal Suklabaidya left his MLA seat to contest the General Election from the Silchar seat, there has been commotion on who gets the next ticket. Ending all speculations, after the announcement of the Dholai Bye-Elections on October 15, the BJP announced its candidate for the polls on October 19. He was met with some criticism and intra-party politics. Some factions of the BJP were dissatisfied with the choice but later were unified with the common goal of securing the seat in the name of the BJP. Jayanta Malla Baruah was the star campaigner for the BJP during the elections, who made some strong remarks appeasing the minority voters but didn’t even get any warning for multiple violations of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC).

Polls were scheduled on November 13 with a brilling turnout of 72.4%. The elections were conducted smoothly and peacefully with minor hiccups.

Counting started at 8 AM as per norms at the Inter-State Truck Terminal (ISTT) at Ramnagar, Silchar. Starting from the very first round, BJP’s Nihar Ranjan Das was leading. In the first round, a lead of 2,154 votes certainly hinted at his victory but nothing was still sure.

In the second round, Das was leading by 4,081 votes and by 6,720 votes in the third. In the fourth round, the divide widened with a big lead of 8,433 votes more than INC’s Dhrubajoti Purkayastha.

The fourth round was over at around 11 AM, and BJP’s Nihar Ranjan was leading by 10,707 votes. But as the sixth round results came in, the gap of trail and lead came closer relatively with Das still leading by 4,931 votes. The seventh round results came in at 12.30 at Nihar Ranjan was still leading by 3,233 votes. After this round, the BJP had a total of 33,353 votes in their favour while Congress had 30,120 votes.

Hearts started racing in both camps once the 8th Round results were live. Then Nihar Ranjan was leading by just 1,761 votes, with 36,592 votes in his ballot.

After the 9th Round results were in, a change of lead was expected as the BJP was leading just by 498 votes but that neck-to-neck contest again widened as the leads started going in BJP’s favour with a lead by 3,438 votes in the 10th Round, 5,224 votes in the 11th Round, 8,686 votes in the 13th Round and a whopping 9,344 votes’ lead in the 14th Round.

The victory is called, only waiting for any objections or claims to be resolved and once done the District Election Officer cum District Commissioner, Mridul Yadav will hand over the certificate of victory to Nihar Ranjan Das.
