Violent Clash in Borkhola: Family Feud Erupts as Police Resort to Mild Lathicharge
A simmering family dispute in the small town of Borkhola, located in the Budi Bail area, took a violent turn. Tensions had been escalating for several days, centered around a property dispute involving ancestral land in the area.
On Friday, this dispute reached a breaking point, prompting a case being filed at the Bhangarpar police post by Saibur Rahman Laskar, (AKA Kookon’s son, Amzad Hossain Laskar). The situation escalated to the point where it resembled a battlefield. Police officers found themselves at odds with those involved in the case.
During the altercation, Saibur Rahman Laskar’s nephew, Sabir Ahmed Laskar, who works in the Forest Department, confronted the case’s plaintiffs in front of the Police officers. In the midst of this chaos, Saibur Rahman Laskar’s son, Amzad Hossain Laskar, was brutally attacked on the scene.
The incident created a tense atmosphere, with news of a violent attack becoming a topic of concern in the area. In an attempt to restore order, the police resorted to using non-lethal baton charges.
Despite the initial chaos, the situation was eventually brought under control by the police. Meanwhile, Amzad Hossain was transferred to Silchar Medical College due to his injuries.
The dispute in Borkhola, which had been ongoing for quite some time, revolved around the ancestral property which involved Saibur Rahman Laskar and his family members, including his nephews Mehboob Ahmed Laskar, Rushdul Alam Laskar, and Shahid Ahmed Laskar.
Numerous attempts at resolving the matter had been made, including rural arbitration, but to no avail. On Friday, the situation escalated when Sabir Ahmed Laskar initiated construction of a wall in front of Saibur Rahman Laskar’s shop without proper authorization. When the authorities attempted to intervene and address the issue, the situation quickly turned volatile.
Amzad Hossain filed a case against Sabir Ahmed, but was threatened with lethal weapons.. In response to the deteriorating situation, the police resorted to non-lethal measures to regain control.
Amzad Hossain Laskar, speaking to the media, stated that his entire family was currently living in fear, and he appealed to the Cachar police superintendent for intervention.
The incident serves as a stark reminder of how family disputes can escalate into violent attacks at any time, affecting entire families and communities. In the wake of this shocking event, it is hoped that the authorities will work to restore peace and security in Borkhola.
