Weather alert: IMD forecasts ‘very heavy’ rainfall in Cachar issues ‘Orange warning’; Yellow for Hailakandi, Karimganj
A cyclonic circulation has been seen over north interior Odisha and neighborhood. It is very likely to move northwestwards during the 3 days, the Indian Meteorological Department said on Monday.
Due to this feature, fairly widespread to widespread rain with isolated heavy to very heavy rain likely to continue over NE & adjoining east India during next 4-5 days. Isolated extremely heavy rain is also likely over Sub Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on 25th and over Assam & Meghalaya on 25th and 26th June, 2020.
The meteorological department’s district-wise forecast has placed Cachar in Orange zone for 25th and 26th June. “Very heavy rain very likely at isolated places of Cachar on 25th and 26th June” it mentioned. Yellow warning has been given for Hailakandi and Karimganj district for 24th, 25th and 26th June which means “Heavy rain very likely at isolated places”.
IMD also predicted Extremely heavy rainfall for Dima Hasao district on 26th June.
It can be mentioned here that Orange warning is to keep authorities prepared whereas Yellow means to ‘be updated’.
