WhatsApp and Instagram back up after global outage; Netizens rushed to Twitter, Facebook to express their frustration

The two of the most popular and downloaded apps, WhatsApp messenger and Instagram, suffered a global outage on Friday night. Both owned by Facebook Inc., people started reporting about this outage at around 10:45 pm, which lasted until around 11:40 pm. Issues like messages not getting delivered and social feeds not getting refreshed were reported all over the globe. As of now, the official reason behind the global outage of both these apps is still unknown to us, but it did help spike the number of online users in other platforms like Facebook and Twitter during that duration of the outage.

While WhatsApp, Instagram were down, Facebook continued to function as usual. Netizens took to the Social Media platform to express their views on the server crash. One Facebook user posted, “These monopolistic institutions like FB, Whatsapp, Instagram kabhi kabhi yuhi server down karte honge to check their credibility and the hullabaloo an outage can cause! Down Down Capitalism.”

WhatsApp, an instant messaging app, and Instagram, a photo-sharing app, are both bought by Mark Zuckerberg’s Facebook Inc. back in 2014 and 2012 respectively. In 2015, WhatsApp became the most popular and downloaded app globally. Since then, Facebook introduced several features in the following years, like status sharing which includes texts, photos as well as videos, to the most recent addition of UPI payment option like Google Pay or PhonePe.

Instagram too kept up in this race of ever-changing world of new media and has, over the years added popular features like story sharing, audio, and video calling options, IGTV feature, Reels video, among several others. It is the second most popular social media platform right after Facebook, its own parent company.

As of now, both these apps are working fine and reports of outage have also seemed to stop. Although, many users are still expecting an official notice explaining the exact reason behind this global outage.
