“Wife ruined my life,” Karimganj man leaves video before killing himself

Resident of Karimganj, Kamargram, Kaliganj, Pratap Biswas is no more. He was declared dead at Silchar Medical College and Hospital on October 26. He was referred to the hospital from Karimganj, after he was rushed there following several bouts of vomiting. He had consumed poison is what his family alleged. He was at his home in the presence of his family members. They woke up to his devastating health conditions.

While it was all but over, a video has surfaced and the Biswas family claims that it was shot by him moments before he killed himself.

Pratap Biswas was married to Rumi Das, daughter of Manoranjan Das, a resident of Nilambazar. According to the family members, it was a disturbed wedding. “Rumi Das had just separated from her ex husband and as she had no work in hand, we appointed her at our house to take care of our mother, round the clock. That is when she met my brother. My mother wasn’t keeping well and so, could not keep track on everything and one day, suddenly, Pratap announced that he is married to Rumi Das. None of us attended the wedding, nor do we have any proof,” informs Pratap Biswas’ sister.

She adds that a day before he had killed himself, he called up family members and informed that his wife and her sister, brother in law were urging him to lodge a case against his family members. “She wanted them to separate from the mother and stay at another rented house to which we said ok. But that day, he called and said that only separation won’t be enough, he will also have to lodge a case against mother and me. I asked him to go ahead if that brings peace to his family. His response was it won’t happen and that’s it,” adds the sister.

In the video that surfaced, the person whom the sister identifies as Pratap Biswas, says, “My wife has ruined my life” among other things. This video needs a detailed investigation. If Police sources are to be believed, they have already got the video and the matter is being looked after.

Biswas family stated that they have lodged a complaint against Rumi Das in the past for allegedly assaulting their mother. Rumi
Das had also logged a case against her husband and others accusing them of domestic violence.

Pratap Biswas and Rumi Das have a two-year-old child. “My brother used to love his child, but his wife used to torture him by keeping the child away. This too was a big irritation for him,” informs the sister Barak Bulletin spoke with.

Money, according to the Biswas family, was the biggest trouble in the marriage. After separating from her ex-wife, Rumi Das got an alimony of Rs 1,00,000. According to the sister, Rumi Das promised Pratap Biswas that she will handover the money to him to start a business. However, she allegedly gave the money to her sister and brother-in-law. This is mentioned in the video allegedly shot moments before committing suicide.

“When we saw him in the hospital, we found innumerable marks of scratches on his body. There were wounds too. He was at the house of his in-laws and we don’t know what happened there. We don’t know why he was scratched and wounded. And we hope the Police will get to the root of it and justice will be served,” sister concludes.
