Woman found dead after two days of marriage, husband detained

In an astonishing turn of affairs, a woman has been murdered within a week of marriage. The incident occurred in Hailakandi district’s Boalipar area.

A woman identified as Waheda Khanum Laskar, who got married earlier this week to Abdul Rahman Laskar, was found dead in her bathroom. Her throat was slit as she lied unconscious only to be later declared dead by the healthcare officials.

Meanwhile Hailakandi police registered a case and the husband has been detained. If this is a case related to dowry is something the police is investigating the officer in charge refused to rule out any such possibilities at this stage. The locals have demanded a probe into the murder.

“She is a resident of our village and her family is so poor that the villagers collected money for her marriage. The reason why everybody went out of their way to help her is because she is indeed a very good girl of the village. The way she has been murdered has left the entire village in shock and I urge the local administration to take adequate action against the perpetrator of the crime,” said a member in the local Gaon Panchayat Body.

The officer in charge of the investigation said that they have detained the husband who himself surrendered to the police. At this stage the husband is suspected to be the murderer of his wife he has married just a couple of days back. When asked if this could be a possible case of dowry the police officer said it is too early to rule out any such possibilities however they are investigating the matter and trying to identify others related to the murder.
