Woman in Cachar allegedly killed as she was unable to conceive; Police arrests husband, mother-in-law

The Sonai police have arrested a man and his mother on the charges of murder. It is alleged that Pinak Kanti Nath and his mother Bijoya Nath were involved in the murder of Pinak Kanti’s wife Moushomi Nath just because she couldn’t give them a child after their marriage. This incident happened in the Singari area of Narsinghpur under the Sonai Police Station.

This sudden death of Moushomi had shaken her family and brothers. While the in-laws of Moushomi said she died after slipping in the bathroom floor, Moushomi’s family didn’t accept this. When they saw the dead body, they said they were convinced that it was not an accident.

Speaking about this unnatural death of his sister, Biswajit Nath, her elder brother said, “Yesterday when my sister’s in-laws called us to say that our sister passed away after falling on the bathroom floor, we rushed here from Katigorah. When we saw her dead body we found wound around her neck. When we asked them about this wound, they started to fumble for an answer. Once they said it must have happened when she fell but again they said she had a scarf around her neck”.

This was when they were convinced that it was not an accident and they informed the police for investigation. Biswajit further said, “We have filed an FIR in the Sonai Police Station yesterday. When the police came to see the body they declared it a suspicious death. The police arrested her husband and mother-in-law last midnight and later sent her body for postmortem”.

The reason behind her death is very strange and superstitious. Moushomi and Pinak Kanti got married six years back and they lived a happy married life. But things started to change three years after their marriage. Moushomi was unable to conceive and her husband and his family started to torture her both mentally and physically. They even made her starve for food. According to them, it was unfortunate to see the face of a childless woman. This continued for a very long time and unfortunately, her in-laws killed her on July 30, Saturday, according to the allegations pressed by the deceased’s family.

The police is investigating the case and have arrested both the husband and her mother-in-law. Her father-in-law was not arrested as he is hospitalised in the Silchar Medical College and Hospital, but he is under police custody in the hospital.
