Woman missing after home-made boat capsizes in Katigorah; Another dead body of a kid floats
One person went today in Cachar’s Katigorah after a boat capsized midway while heading towards relief camp. Katgorah is among the worst affected areas in Southern Assam due to the flood situation that has arisen after heavy rainfall. The incident happened in Katgorah’s Leverputa area near Narapati Colony, the missing person is a woman named Sankita Das, who was a house maker. SDRF team will continue the search and rescue operation.
According to the information provided to Katigorah’s circle officer by the villagers, Sankita along with her two children and husband, were approaching a relief camp in Kinnor Khal in a country-made boat. Their boat capsized midway, there was no disaster relief force in that area; villagers and nearby fishermen were able to rescue two children and brought them to the shore but Sankita couldn’t be traced as she was drowned in the water currents.
The Circle officer has informed District Disaster Management Authority about the incident; the SDRF team will carry out a search operation tomorrow morning to search for the missing person.
On another note, the dead body of a five-year-old child named Hirana Akter has been recovered at Mohanpur in Katigorah’s Katirail area. Hirana was the daughter of Saddam Hussain. Local people recovered the body after noticing it and brought it to Katigorah Police station, and the body will be sent to Silchar Medical College for postmortem.
