“Yes, I did call SP but never pressurised to release the two apprehended from Kachudaram”: Aminul Haque Laskar

The deputy speaker of Assam and MLA Sonai, Aminul Haque Laskar has broken his silence on the controversial release of two individuals detained from Kachudaram a couple of days back.

Late Friday night, Cachar Police under the leadership of DYSP HQR conducted a search operation at Abul Hussain Laskar’s residence located in Mohankhal, Amraghat area. SP, Cachar issued a press statement which said, “We have apprehended two persons from the residence of Abul Hussain Laskar. They are, Migda Hussain Laskar and Ali Hussain Laskar. Interrogation is going on.” His statement also mentioned that the Police seized 10 gelatin sticks, 10 detonators and one fuse wire.

A day after the duo were arrested the residents of the Village launched a massive protest demanding the immediate release of both. They first demonstrated in front of Kachudaram Police Station and they went to the residence of deputy speaker and Sonai MLA, Aminul Haque Laskar.

“One of the two arrested passed class X with four letters. Despite being poor and having no access to private tuitions he excelled in his examination. He is a bright kid and was studying when the forces went and apprehended him. When I was told that the young boy has been apprehended by the Police I called the superintendent of Police to understand what happened,” said Aminul Haque Laskar while speaking with Barak Bulletin.

A report in a leading daily spurred a debated as that claimed the administration was pressurised to release the two detained by Police. “Yes, I did call the SP but never pressurised to release the two apprehended. They were not released because of political pressure but they were released due to lack of evidence,” said Laskar. He added, “In the past also Police and CRPF got played by miscreants in Kachudaram area. Who planted the explosives and why needs to be investigated and in the process innocent must not suffer.”

Superintendent of Police Mugdhajyoti Dev Mahanta also denied any political pressure, “See we found the explosives in a cowshed at that residence. The owner of the house was missing and so the two sons were apprehended. After interrogation, we did not find any reason to keep them behind bars and that is why we decided to release them,” he said.

The Police is in search of Abul Hussain Laskar, the owner of the residence from which the explosives were found. “We are treating him as a prime suspect, however, we do not have enough evidence yet to say that he is involved. We are investigating the matter,” SP, Mahanta added.
