A farmer from a border village in Cachar was reportedly taken across the India-Bangladesh border by a group of people alleged to be from Bangladesh, triggering concern among residents in the Kinnarkhal border area under Katigorah.

The farmer has been identified as Ranjit Das, a resident of Chandinagar Part-II village.

According to local residents, the incident occurred at around 11 a.m. while Ranjit Das was cutting grass for cattle on agricultural land located beyond the border fencing but within Indian territory. Residents alleged that several people from Bangladesh forcibly took him across the border.

Following the incident, local residents gathered near the border and informed security personnel. Officials of the Border Security Force (BSF) subsequently reached the spot and initiated efforts to address the situation.

Addressing media personnel at the scene, a resident alleged that seven to eight people from Bangladesh came and took Ranjit Das away. “Now we are here near the border hoping for his return. Currently, BSF is trying to have a meeting, but Bangladesh is not responding,” he claimed.

The resident further appealed to the District Commissioner to intervene and take necessary steps to secure the farmer’s return.

Another resident echoed the allegations, stating that the incident took place at around 11 a.m. while Ranjit Das was cutting grass for cattle near the border. He claimed that BSF personnel were trying to arrange a flag meeting with their counterparts in Bangladesh following the incident.

At the time of filing this report, no official statement regarding the incident had been issued. According to residents present at the scene, efforts were underway to hold a flag meeting between the BSF and Bangladesh’s Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).

The incident has caused fear and concern among residents of the border region, who are demanding the safe return of Ranjit Das. Further details are awaited.
