BSF Rescues 45 Cattle From Smugglers in Cachar, Foils Bid to Cross Into Bangladesh
In a major crackdown on cattle smuggling, a joint team comprising the Border Security Force’s (BSF) Intelligence Unit, troops of the 170th Battalion BSF, and police personnel from Bhangarpar Police Outpost under Borkhola Police Station conducted an operation in Sonapur Part-I village, Cachar district, on Tuesday (November 4).
During the raid, the team intercepted three trucks loaded with a total of 37 buffalo allegedly being prepared for smuggling into Bangladesh. The operation led to the seizure of all the buffalo and the vehicles, along with the arrest of three Indian nationals involved in the illegal trade.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Najimuddin Choudhury (62), Hasmul Hussain (28), and Anawruddin (33) — all residents of Sonapur village under Borkhola Police Station in Cachar.
According to police sources, the seized buffaloes included 18 large, 15 medium, and 4 small animals. The accused, along with the seized trucks and livestock, were brought to Borkhola Police Station for further legal action.
Meanwhile, in a separate operation, the 170th Battalion of the BSF also seized eight more smuggled cattle from the Katigorah area along the Indo-Bangladesh border while they were allegedly being transported illegally across the border.
