Cachar DC Office Employee Sent To Jail For Allegedly Raping Colleague

A Grade-III employee of the Election Branch under the Office of the District Commissioner, Cachar, has been arrested for allegedly raping a female colleague. The accused, identified as Soumitra Nath, was sent to judicial custody on Friday (September 26) following a court order.

According to police sources, the incident took place on Wednesday night (September 17) when a Grade-IV staff member of the same office, visited Soumitra’s house for some work. Taking advantage of the situation, Soumitra allegedly forced himself on her.

The victim subsequently lodged an FIR, based on which police registered a case and arrested Soumitra on Thursday. He was produced before court the next day and was remanded to jail.

The incident has sparked outrage in Silchar, especially amid the festive Durga Puja season.
