Cachar Declared Drone-Free Zone Ahead Of Amit Shah’s Visit
Union Home Minister Amit Shah will visit Cachar district on February 19 and 20, 2026, prompting the district administration to declare the entire district a No-Fly Zone for drones as part of heightened security arrangements. This visit comes for the launch of Vibrant Villages Programme phase 2 in Natanpur, Katigorah.
In an official order issued on February 18, the District Magistrate of Cachar, Aayush Garg, IAS, imposed a complete ban on the operation of all Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS)/drones within district limits during the VVIP visit. The decision was taken following a communication from the Deputy Superintendent of Police (Security & Intelligence), Cachar DEF, Assam Police, and after a detailed security assessment.
According to the order, no private or commercial drone operations will be allowed anywhere in Cachar during the specified period. The administration has made it clear that no exemptions will be granted unless prior written permission is obtained from the competent authority after strict security vetting.
Officials warned that any violation of the order will attract stringent legal action under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The move comes as part of comprehensive aerial security measures to ensure smooth conduct of the Union Home Minister’s visit.
The announcement was made through a press release issued by the Regional Office of Information & Public Relations, Barak Valley Zone, Silchar.
