Cachar Education Officer Held After Allegedly Accepting Rs. 7,000 Bribe
The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, Assam arrested a government official on Tuesday (18 November 2025) from Udharbond in Cachar after he allegedly accepted a bribe from a complainant in exchange for regularising his salary. The sleuths apprehended Madhab Saha, Block Elementary Education Officer (BEEO) of Udarbond Block, after he was allegedly caught red-handed accepting Rs. 7,000 inside his office chamber.
According to a press release issued by the Directorate, Saha had allegedly demanded Rs. 10,000 as bribe to regularise the complainant’s salary under the proposed budget. The demand was later reduced to Rs. 7,000 after negotiation. Unwilling to pay, the complainant approached the Vigilance department seeking legal action.
Following this, a trap was laid on 18 November at the BEEO office in Udarbond. Officials said Saha was caught immediately after accepting the bribe money. The tainted currency was recovered and seized in the presence of independent witnesses. After finding sufficient evidence, the BEEO was arrested on the spot.
A case has been registered at the Anti-Corruption Branch Police Station under ACB P.S. Case No. 61/2025 dated 18/11/2025 under Section 7(a) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018). Further legal procedures are underway.
The Directorate also posted about the operation on X (formerly Twitter), writing: “Today @DIR_VAC_ASSAM trapped red handed Madhab Saha, Block Elementary Education Officer, Udharbond Block in his office after he accepted bribe from the complainant for regularizing his salary.”
