Cachar join Statewide Fervour, to launch Orunodoi 3.0; Credits Rs. 1,250 to 1.83 Lakh Women Beneficiaries

In a remarkable display of welfare governance and administrative coordination, Cachar district on Tuesday joined the rest of Assam in celebrating the grand ceremonial launch of the much-anticipated Orunodoi 3.0, a flagship financial assistance scheme of the Government of Assam aimed at empowering women and promoting inclusive growth. The day began with an air of excitement and anticipation as the launch was simultaneously observed across 1,575 polling stations in Cachar, along with all other districts of the state.

The official proceedings commenced at 10:30 AM, marking the start of yet another chapter in the government’s effort to ensure direct and transparent financial aid to women from underprivileged families. On the very day of its launch, the first instalment of Rs. 1,250 was successfully credited to the bank accounts of 1.83 lakh beneficiaries in Cachar — a milestone achievement symbolising the government’s commitment to speed, transparency, and accountability in service delivery. The central programme, inaugurated by Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma in Guwahati, was telecast live across the state, enabling beneficiaries to witness the historic occasion together at their respective venues through large screens, televisions, and mobile devices.

At the Meherpur Durgabari centre, the event was made more momentous by the gracious presence of Guardian Minister for Cachar, Jayanta Malla Baruah, who personally interacted with beneficiaries and officials, commending the District Administration for ensuring smooth and successful organisation of the district-level programme. District Commissioner Mridul Yadav, IAS, along with other senior officers of the administration, was also present, extending wholehearted support to the arrangements and welcoming the beneficiaries with warmth and enthusiasm. Their combined efforts ensured seamless execution of the programme across all polling stations under strict adherence to official protocol.

Earlier in the morning, the Guardian Minister ceremonially inaugurated Orunodoi 3.0 by lighting the traditional lamp at Booth No. 22 of Durga Palli under Chatla Mandal in Borkhola LAC.

Addressing the gathering, Minister Malla Baruah highlighted the transformation brought about by the Orunodoi initiative since its inception in December 2020, when the Assam Government, under the visionary leadership of Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, first launched the scheme to provide monthly financial support to women from economically weaker households.

The Minister recalled that the Orunodoi journey began by providing Rs. 830 per month to each beneficiary woman, which was later enhanced to Rs. 1,000, and under the current phase, Orunodoi 3.0, has been further increased to Rs. 1,250. He explained that the government has now taken a historic decision to extend the benefits of the scheme to 40 lakh women across Assam, ensuring that every eligible woman receives timely assistance directly into her bank account without any intermediaries. Minister Malla Baruah said that each Legislative Assembly Constituency will cover approximately 25,000 to 30,000 women beneficiaries selected transparently through booth-level committees formed specifically for the purpose.

Emphasising the transparency and efficiency of the process, the Minister stated that there is absolutely no scope for corruption or the involvement of middlemen in the Orunodoi scheme, as every rupee is directly transferred to the rightful beneficiary through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system. He further added that in Borkhola LAC alone, 25,980 women will receive benefits under Orunodoi 3.0, including 90 beneficiaries from Booth No. 22 itself, where he performed the ceremonial inauguration. He informed that the assistance amount would continue to be transferred on the 10th of every month, ensuring consistent and predictable financial support for women across the district.

The Guardian Minister also acknowledged that in some families where more than one eligible woman lives under different ration cards, there have been instances of temporary exclusion, but assured that the administration is committed to addressing such cases in subsequent phases. He added that the government’s ultimate goal is to reach every deserving woman of Assam, enabling them to live with dignity and self-reliance.

Earlier, District Commissioner Mridul Yadav, in his welcome address, greeted the large gathering of women beneficiaries and urged them to listen attentively to the Chief Minister’s live address from Guwahati’s Khanapara venue. He also expressed deep appreciation for the tireless efforts of the district officials, field workers, and booth-level teams who made the simultaneous launch of the scheme possible across all polling stations of Cachar.

This was stated in a press release issued by the Regional Office of Information & Public Relations, Barak Valley Zone, Silchar, Assam.
