Cachar Police Arrests Gold Smuggler From Manipur With 3 Gold Biscuits
Taking proactive steps against smuggling of illegal contrabands, Cachar Police on Saturday recovered three suspected gold biscuits weighing approximately 439 grams from the possession of a person from Manipur, near the Ramnagar bypass under Silchar Police Station.
Acting on a tip-off, a team from Cachar Police conducted an operation and intercepted Khamneu Munluah (32), son of Tuanzanang Munluah, a resident of Lamka, Churachandpur district in Manipur. The suspected gold, which was allegedly being transported from Manipur, was seized in the presence of independent witnesses at the spot.
According to police sources, the seized biscuits were en route to be delivered near the ISBT area in Silchar.
Senior Superintendent of Police (Cachar), Numal Mahatta, confirmed the operation, stating, “Yesterday, based on credible intelligence, we launched an operation in Silchar Bypass in Ramnagar near ISBT. During the operation, we apprehended one person with three suspected gold biscuits in his possession. The weight is nearly 439 grams, and the price of this will be roughly Rs. 45 lakh in the black market.”
Mahatta added that the matter is under active investigation and preliminary findings suggest the gold was being smuggled from a neighbouring state to be handed over to an agent near the ISBT.
Further legal proceedings have been initiated by the police.
