Cachar Police Confiscate Pistol From Silchar Goldighi Mall Parking Lot, One Arrested

Cachar Police on Monday (December 8) confiscated a pistol, along with ammunition from the parking lot of Goldighi Municipal Mall in Premtola, Silchar. According to police sources, a surveillance team from the Silchar Town Branch acted on reliable information and apprehended a person from Borkhola, who allegedly bought the gun from Mizoram. 

The accused has been identified as Jamir Ahmed Barbhuiya (30), son of Late Asab Uddin Barbhuiya, a resident of Bijoypur Part II under Borkhola Police Station. During the operation, police recovered one suspected factory-made 7.62 mm pistol, along with one suspected magazine and four rounds of 7.62 mm suspected live ammunition.

All seized items were confiscated following due procedure. Barbhuiya has been taken into custody for further interrogation and legal action.

Speaking to Barak Bulletin, Senior SP Partha Protim Das said, “The gun was brought into the Premtola area of Silchar from Mizoram. He was attempting to sell it to someone here, and the probable buyer is believed to be a local resident of Cachar district. Further leads and connections are under investigation. We have also recovered his phone, and technical analysis is underway to trace all associated links.”

Police say more arrests may follow as the investigation continues.
