
Cachar Police Seize Heroin Worth Rs. 2.8 Crore, One Held In Lakhipur
Acting on a credible intelligence input, Cachar Police launched a special operation against illegal narcotics transportation on Monday evening (August 25) at Boromamda village under Lakhipur Police Station.
During the operation, the police intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number AS-11 BC-8769 and apprehended one person, identified as Md. Baktar Hussain Laskar, son of Ajiruddin Laskar, a resident of Dungripar Part I under Sonai Police Station.
On thorough search, the police team recovered 30 soap cases containing suspected heroin, weighing about 416 grams, concealed inside specially made chambers of the vehicle. The psychotropic substance, valued at around Rs. 2.8 crore in the black market, was seized in the presence of independent witnesses. A drug detection kit test conducted at the spot confirmed the substance to be heroin.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the consignment had been illegally transported from Aizawl, Mizoram. Further investigation into the matter is underway.
Confirming the development, Cachar Senior Superintendent of Police Numal Mahatta said that strict action is being taken against drug trafficking in the district.
The operation was also lauded by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who took to social media, writing, “Cracking the whip on drugs Based on credible sources, Cachar Police launched an anti-narcotics operation in Lakhipur and intercepted a vehicle carrying 416 gms heroin valued at ₹2.8 cr. One person has been apprehended.”
