CBI Arrests Three Including Railway Engineers in Silchar Bribery Scandal
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has made arrests in a high-profile bribery case involving the Northeast Frontier Railway zone in Silchar, India. Three individuals, including Senior Section Engineer Santosh Kumar and Deputy Chief Engineer Rampal, have been arrested for their alleged involvement in the case. The third individual, Sajjan Chaudhary, is the owner of the construction company, Tribeni Constructions.
The arrests were made after CBI officials caught Senior Section Engineer Santosh Kumar receiving a payment of Rs 8 lakh from the construction company. Further searches by the agency at 19 locations led to the seizure of cash worth Rs 1.10 crore, including Rs 67 lakh from the in-laws of the arrested Deputy Chief Engineer Rampal.
The CBI has registered an FIR against nine individuals, including Santosh Kumar, Rampal, and Sajjan Chaudhary, for their alleged involvement in a bribery case involving Rs 2 crore. According to the FIR, Tribeni Constructions had submitted a bill of Rs 19 crore for one of the projects, with the inflated sum of Rs 2 crore being manipulated in collusion with the accused public servants.
The FIR alleges that a total of Rs 20 lakh had already been given to the Deputy Chief Engineer Rampal, while Rs 35 lakh had been given to Assistant Executive Engineer B U Laskar, another accused in the case. A sum of Rs 36 lakh was allegedly intended to be handed over to Santosh Kumar.
These arrests highlight the ongoing efforts by the CBI to stamp out corruption and bribery in India’s public sector. The agency’s swift action in this case sends a strong message that those who engage in such unethical practices will not go unpunished. The case is now under investigation, and it remains to be seen what further developments will emerge.
