Chief Secretary Jishnu Baruah visits Lailapur, warns “Mizoram will have to retreat”
Assam and Mizoram are at loggerheads since October 17. In the mean time, Mizo miscreants burnt shops and dwellings to the residents of Assam, bombed a school operated by Assam Government, stopped and threatened officers of Cachar and Karimganj administrations and hundreds of locals. Day before yesterday, miscreants from Mizoram abducted 40-year-old Intazul Ali Laskar and yesterday he was declared dead by Kolasib SP.
Chief Secretary of Assam, Jishnu Baruah, DGP Bhaskarjyoti Mahanta rushed to Lailapur from Guwahati as instructed by the chief minister of Assam. Baruah met the father of deceased and he was joined by minister Parimal Suklabaidya and MP Rajdeep Roy.
After the meeting, Baruah said “We cannot choose our neighbours, so, it is important for us to restore peace in the locality.”
Government of Assam, so far has been acting like a mute spectator as Mizoram continues with its aggressive stance. Three kilometeres into Assam, Mizoram has deployed forces that torture residents of Assam living in the border. Chief Secretary denies. “We have taken it up to the highest levels and discussion is going on. A solution is expected in next two three days.”
On Assam’s subdued stance and Mizoram’s aggression, “Mizoram will have retreat from Assam’s land. We will not let an inch in our constitutional boundary slip away from Assam. We are aware of our boundaries and that cannot be disputed. We are concerned about the forces deployed in the constitutional boundary of Assam,” added Jishnu Baruah.
DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta also sent across a clear message to the Mizoram Government. “Assam Police follows law and order and we will not break the laws. At the same time, we will not tolerate injustice against our land, our people. The matter is being discussed at the top level and we will see how it pans out,” said the DGP.
He also said that Assam Police will do all it can to ensure safety to the people of Assam living in the border.
