A major drug recovery operation under Lakhipur Police Station led to the seizure of 664 grams of suspected heroin, valued at around Rs. 3.5 crore in the black market. Police recovered the narcotics hidden in the jungle area of Jujang Hills under Lakhipur Police Station’s jurisdiction, following information obtained from one of the arrested accused.
According to police sources, 50 soap cases containing suspected heroin were found and seized in the presence of independent witnesses. A drug detection kit tested positive for heroin. The contraband was seized under Lakhipur PS Case No. 140/25, registered under sections 21(b) and 29 of the NDPS Act.
Additional Superintendent of Police, Cachar, Subrata Sen informed the media that the operation was based on the confession of one of the previously arrested accused. “Last month on 29th, we caught three people involved in drug dealing, and based on one of their statements, we conducted this operation the day before yesterday,” Sen said.
The accused whose confession led to the recovery has been identified as Linboi Hosnai from Tamenglong district of Manipur. Along with him, two others, Lalringthan Hmar and Borjora Hmar, were arrested earlier on 29th October.
The operation was carried out under the jurisdiction of Jirighat Police Station. Further legal proceedings are underway.
