Cops Arrest Four In Murder Case Of Class 10 Student Sadia Akhtar In Sonai

Police have arrested four persons in connection with the murder of Class 10 student Sadia Akhtar, who succumbed to injuries sustained during a violent clash over a land dispute at East Sonai’s Hatikhali Bazaar in Cachar district. The arrests were made during a late-night operation on Friday, December 19. The accused have been identified as Raju Ahmed, Ataur Rahman, Rais Ali and Shahab Uddin, sources confirmed.

The incident took place on Monday night (December 15), in the Hatikhali Bazaar area under East Sonai, where a long-standing land dispute allegedly escalated after one group attempted to forcibly occupy a plot of land in the market area. This led to a fierce clash between two groups, during which several people were attacked with sticks and other weapons.

According to local sources, Sadia was returning home after coaching classes when she found her father and brother being assaulted by members of the rival group. While trying to intervene and save them, Sadia was allegedly attacked and sustained critical injuries. She was rushed to Silchar Medical College and Hospital, where she remained in the ICU for two days before succumbing to her injuries late on Wednesday night (December 17).

At least 12 people were injured in the clash, with two of them still reported to be in critical condition. Following the incident, tension gripped the area, prompting the administration to deploy additional police forces to prevent any further escalation.

The victim’s family and locals have demanded a fair and impartial investigation, along with exemplary punishment for those responsible. While police have initiated further investigation after the arrest of four accused, the family and locals have reiterated their demand that all others involved in the brutal killing be arrested and brought to justice.
