10 kilos of deer flesh confiscated at Udharbond area of Cachar; 1 arrested
The officers of the Forest Division, Udharbond, arrested a man smuggling deer meat in the forest areas of Madhura, Udharbond. Acting on the tip received from a trusted source, the forest department officers held a campaign and successfully caught the culprit, and recovered 10 kilograms of meat from him.
In the protected forest areas of the Borail range, a man named Prajit Jarambasur was convicted for illegally killing the animal and trying to sell its meat.
Killing an animal is a punishable offence under various acts of animal cruelty and wildlife protection. He was arrested under sections 9, 29, 50 and 51, as informed by the forest officer. The deer was killed in the protected areas of the Borail Range of Madhura, that falls under Udharbond sub-division of Cahar Forest Division. Prajit Jarambasur, though originally hails from Haflong, Harangajao, he has been a permanent resident of Borkhola area of Cachar district for several years. Investigation is continued further regarding the matter though no new information has been revealed yet.
