102-year-old Chandradhar Das needs to wait more; his citizenship card to be sent to Tripura for verification
The famous Sunny Deol dialogue Tarik pe Tarik must be spinning in 102-year-old Chandradhar Das’ mind as the Foreigners Tribunal refused to pass a judgment today and instead ordered the administration to verify Das’ refugee card. The member of the Foreigners Tribunal said that it would hear the case again on December 28, 2018.
Niyati Roy, daughter of Chandradhar Das was disappointed as the entire family expected to get a judgment today. “My father got up in the morning and dressed up thinking he would be declared a citizen of India today. We even made plans of visiting the temple in the evening. This two months extension is really disappointing for us,” says the daughter.
Das’ counsel Soumen Choudhury speaking to Barak Bulletin asserts that the argument, in this case, is over and now it is up to the judge (member) to pronounce a judgment, “We have submitted all the documents and witnesses, the entire case is based on the Citizenship Certificate issued to Das, in 1966. The Tribunal has ordered the administration to send the certificate to Tripura for verification and after that, it will pass its judgment in the case,” says he.
Das’s Citizenship Certificate was issued by Tripura State Government and that is why it is sent across for verification.

With Chandradhar declared as D-lister, he was moved to the detention camp in March. There, he faced the most difficult situations. The plight of the 102-year-old had moved many including some politicians in Assam, but the court is still unmoved and the man continues to fight a legal battle.
