102-year- old Chandradhar does not need to be present in the court; lawyers to argue on October 30

Some respite for the 102-year-old Chandradhar Das as the member of Foreigners Tribunal, while hearing the case announced that Das need not report to the court any further. The member will hear the arguments of both the lawyers on October, and a judgment is expected on that day itself.

The State Government lawyer tabled his arguments and Soumen Choudhury, Chandradhar Das’ counsel countered them. On October 30, 2018, Roy needs to provide all the necessary documents to prove that Das is an Indian citizen while the Government Lawyer will have to expose the shortcomings. “Today government lawyer Pranab Bhattacharjee questioned my client and tried his best to establish that Das is a migrant living illegally in India. It is a judicial matter and the case is not yet closed so as a lawyer I must not speculate. Having said so, the documents we have is enough, in my opinion, to prove that Das is an Indian citizen. October 30, 2018, is the next date of hearing and we are keeping our fingers crossed,” said Choudhury after the hearing.
Chandradhar Das, son of late Satish Das had been in news for quite some time now. Although he has a citizen certificate issued from Agartala in 1966 and a voter id card, the Assam Police suspected him to be Bangladeshi who illegally migrated to India and a case was forwarded to the Foreigner’s Tribunal 6th. With Chandradhar declared as D-lister, he was moved to the detention camp in March. There, he faced the most difficult situations.
