"11 Active Covid cases in Cachar," Jt Director Health, urges public to go for booster dose; 2 deaths in Assam

Dr. Ashutosh Barman, Jt DHS Cachar District has issued a message alerting the mass about the Covid situation. He informed that there are 11 active cases in the district at this stage which have been reported from various parts. Cachar District Administration, on its Facebook page mentioned that five individuals have tested positive today itself.

The entire state of Assam is witnessing a surge in the number of Covid Cases. NHM Assam announced a set of restrictions in Kokrajhar after the district reported high number of cases. “With surge in COVID 19 cases in Kokrajhar district there is a need to reinforce the importance of preventive measures and practices in a sustained manner to deal with the disease over the long run,” stated NHM Assam in a tweet.

Joint Director Burman urged the general public to immediately report to the nearest healthcare centre if they encounter cough, cold or any other similar symptoms. Dr. Burman said, “There is no need for us to get scared at this stage. However, prevention is better than cure and so, I urge the general public to maintain social distancing, wear mask covering mouth and nose and live a hygienic life which involves washing and sanatising hands on regular intervals.”

According to him, the biggest shield against Covid at this stage is vaccination. “Those who have taken the first dose and have their second dose due, must immediately get the jab from a nearest centre. Those who have taken two shots and are eligible for the booster dose, must go for it without delay,” said Dr. Burman.

Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, vice principal of Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH), while speaking with Barak Bulletin, said, “SMCH is well prepared to handle Covid cases. We have adequate facilities and quality healthcare service at the SMCH devoted to serve the patients. I urge people throwing symptoms to immediately test themselves and if found positive, must consult a doctor. Early consultation can save one from hospitalisation or further complexities that come with Covid Case.”

The Health Minister of Assam, Keshab Mahanta informed that today, 294 samples have tested positive for Covid 19 in Assam out of 2,625 tests conducted. The state has reported 11.20% positivity rate. Two deaths have been reported in the state as well on July 8.
