Within a span of 60 minutes, two Silchar residents were looted in broad daylight in the heart of the town. Rajdeo (Raju) Singh had withdrawn Rs 7 lakh from State Bank Of India’s Tarapur branch at around 12:45 PM. As he walked out of the bank and sat on his scooter to ride off, two miscreants allegedly riding on a Pulsar 220 snatched his bag and ran away.

At around 1:15 PM, Malugram resident Mukesh Das had withdrawn Rs 2 lakh from HDFC bank and was riding on Circuit House road along with a colleague when two miscreants chased him from behind riding on a Bajaj Pulsar 220 motorcycle and snatched the bag. Mukesh Das chased the miscreants and right next to Lion’s Club, the miscreants met with an accident. According to Das, there were two boys riding the Pulsar motorcycle. One of whom ran away while the other got caught and was beaten by the mob.

Mukesh Das, on the other hand, said that he was carrying a total of Rs 4 lakh in his bag, two lakh he had withdrawn from the bank while the remaining two lakh he carried from his office in order to deposit in an Axis bank account.

The suspected miscreant caught and beaten by the mob was carrying a bag which had Rs 2 lakh in it. A driving license was recovered from the suspect’s pocket, according to which his name is Raj Rai and he is the son of Banny Rai. The license issued by the government authority states that he is a resident of Hanuman Nagar, Jharkhand.

The motorcycle which carried a number plate reading AS 01 DB 7618. According to the ministry of transport and highways database, the bike is owned by Sudhir Giri of Guwahati.

The suspect identified as Raj Rai has been taken to Silchar Medical College and Hospital for treatment. When police reached the spot, Rai was bleeding from his mouth, had bruises all over his body and massive swelling on his forehead. The motorcycle has been towed to Tarapur Police Outpost and the police officials informed us that they are investigating the matter.

However filmy the story reads, that is what actually happened in Silchar today. It seems like a nexus of miscreants belonging to various parts of the country are looting people in Silchar and Barak Valley.
