118 positive so far today, 6 died in last 24 hours, ICU out of beds, 21 critical
The district health department has informed that 118 individuals have tested positive for so far today in Cachar.
Silchar Medical College and Hospital’s microbiology department has crossed the 80,000 mark in the number of samples tested so far as the number stands at 80,228. Out of them, 3515 have tested positive for the virus.
For the first time, Silchar Medical College and Hospital has more number of patients discharged than admitted. In the last 24 hours, Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, vice-principal of Silchar Medical College and Hospital informed, 26 patients took admission in the COVID wards while 27 were discharged. It is worth mentioning here that only symptomatic patients are treated at SMCH while the rest are transferred to COVID Care Centres.
Talking about the current condition of patients, Gupta said all 16 ICU beds are occupied and three are under a ventilator. The vice-principal added that 21 patients are in critical condition and 10 of them are in COVID ward itself as there are no beds available in SMCH’s ICU. Currently, 272 patients are admitted to the COVID ward of the hospital.
The alarming sign in that six patients in the COVID ward have succumbed in the last 24 hours. Gupta said, five of them are from Cachar while one is from Karimganj.
Meanwhile, the district health department has informed that with a view to making COVID Test more accessible, they are going to start screening centre ward wise in Silchar. “The screening centre will remain open for testing from 9.30 AM to 4 PM. Registration is open up to 3 PM,” informed the spokesperson.
