119 in Cachar; Active cases in Karimganj cross 100, 24 air passengers tested positive for COVID19

The hospital beds are filling, the crematories are getting busier, the second wave that looked dangerous on TV screens and Newspapers is approaching Assam and Barak Valley thick and fast. Cachar district on Wednesday reported 119 cases – highest in 2021.

Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of Silchar Medical College and Hospital informed that currently there are 59 active patients under treatment at the COVID wards. 22 of them are in ICU with eight under ventilator and 14 on oxygen support. It is worth mentioning here that unless the ICU beds are ramped up, Barak Valley is only left with 18 of them in SMCH.

There are no restrictions on domestic flights and people from all the parts of the country are flying in fearing another series of lockdowns. The reverse migration is risky and that is why the Assam government made it mandatory to undergo tests upon landing. A high number of passengers escape mandatory testing on a daily basis. Today, 24 air passengers have tested positive for COVID19.

In Karimganj district 1160 samples were tested on RAT and 25 happened to be positive. Out of the 84 samples tested on RT-PCR, 1 tested positive taking the day’s total to 26. Currently, there are 116 active cases in Karimganj. In Cachar, the number of active cases stands at 510
