15 injured as Cruiser crashes 20 feet off road near Assam University

Another road mishap in Barak Valley, and again it’s a rushing Cruiser in question. The roads in Barak Valley are better than ever but the always in rush drivers, are losing controls every now and then. Today at around 1:00 PM, near Assam University Silchar, Dargakona a speeding Cruiser lost its control while taking a turn and dashed into the rear end of a truck coming from the other side. The cruiser then went off the road and fell down in a ditch 20 feet below.

The cruiser had 15 passengers on board including the drivers and his handymen and as per latest information all of them have suffered some injury. All 15 were taken to Silchar Medical College and Hospital, while few were discharged after first aid, some are admitted in the surgery department. Mithailal Rabidas and Harilala Rabidas of Elegpur area are in critical condition, as per medical sources. There were two minors too on board, (Fatima, 3.5 and Shabnam, 6) they were travelling with their mother Jolly Begum, all of them got injured in the accident, but are out of danger.

The Cruiser was travelling to Hailakandi from Silchar while the truck was heading towards Silchar, a head on collision would have risked many more lives and it was a near miss says eyewitnesses. 50 year old Gopal Das was travelling to Ramkrishna Nagar as he was called by the NRC officials, Khairunnessa Begam, (56) was also in the cruiser because of NRC. Her husband is ailing from Cancer in Cachar Cancer Hospital, she was travelling back home to collect documents she needs to submit tomorrow. Asha workers Anjana Das and Bina Das also got injured in the accident, but out of danger now.

This accident could have taken a more brutal shape, thank God for the  lucky escape. Cruiser and Sumo accidents are almost a daily routine and district administration needs to take immediate actions to restrict over-speeding and lane cutting. Implementation of traffic rules is the only way to restrict such accidents.
