15 positive in Cachar; 2 Silchar residents died at Medical College with COVID

The Silchar crematorium is getting busy. The vicious second wave is hitting Cachar hard as the fatality rate is keeping experts awake at night. Today morning, at around 2:00 am, 73-year-old died in Silchar Medical College and Hospital. Satyendra Mohan, a resident of the Premtala area was admitted on April 10, 2021. He breathed his last today.

As per medical records, the RT-PCR was done at Green Heals Hospital and then after testing positive, he was admitted to the COVID-ICU in SMCH. The patient, according to the medical records, suffered a sudden cardiac arrest. He was diagnosed to have CKD Hypertension, hyper-thyroid with a history of Cerebrovascular accident (CVA) which is the medical term for a stroke.

The death audit board, after reviewing the reports, declared it to be a death due to comorbidities after testing positive for COVID.

The other deceased is a resident of the Tarapur area in Silchar. 70-year-old, Hemendra Kumar Chanda breathed his last today at 4:15 pm. He was suffering from “Severe Covid along with AKI which is a medical term for Acute kidney Injury. His reports have been sent to the death audit board and the declaration is awaited.

The district health department informed that till 7:00 pm today, 15 people have tested positive for COVID 19. This takes the current number of active cases to 173.

According to the information given by Silchar Medical College and Hospital management, 20 patients are currently admitted to the COVID-ward and two of them are in ventilators. Meanwhile, three patients were discharged today after they recovered.

In Karimganj district, 1034 samples were tested on Sunday and 9 found carrying the infection. Total active cases in Karimganj stand at 89.
