159 positive so far in Cachar; 2 died in last 24 hours at SMCH
Cachar district administration has informed that 159 individuals have tested positive in the district. Out of them, 142 were tested using Rapid Antigen Test kits.
What comes as a piece of good news is that in the last 24 hours, 22 patients got cured and were discharged from Silchar Medical College and Hospital. Whereas, in the same period, the number of new admissions stood at 12.
However, the number of patients in critical condition remains high and that continues to be a worrying sign. Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, vice-principal of Silchar Medical College and Hospital informed 21 patients are in critical condition. The ICU dedicated to COVID patients has a capacity of 16 beds and all of them are filled so five of the 21 critical patients are still in the COVID ward.
Dr. Gupta added that four patients have been placed under ventilation. Currently, 262 patients are admitted to Silchar Medical College and Hospital’s COVID wards.
The vice-principal added, “In the last 24 hours, two patients in COVID ward have succumbed.”
Meanwhile, the deputy commissioner of Cachar, Keerthi Jalli visited SMCH to take stock of the work in progress. Minister of State, Health, Pijush Hazarika informed that the ICU will be expanded and 14 additional beds will be installed immediately. DC’s visit, according to the administration’s Facebook page, was related to the ICU expansion.
